Download Kenwood TK-260G service manual here.

There is little to no information online regarding this VHF radio.

I hope to change this problem and make available any information that i find about this radio and post it here.

Frequency Range: 146-174 Mhz
Channels: 32

50 watts Rf power

KENWOOD Tk-720 and tk-820 can only be programmed with the Kenwood programmer model KPT-50.

KENWOOD Tk 720 mobile is programmed with the same programmer as used with Tkr-720 / 820, a jack RJ 45 enters the entrance of the microphone, the other under the cover of the radio, and there in front of you there is an entry for the black programmer, you plug in and there you start to read the equipment.

Well going to the radio look:
The radio is programmed with a Kenwood programmer is the original model KPT50 of Kenwood, this has two connectors, one that plugs into the plug of microphone where it takes its voltage, and another black in the form of pins that is introduced in the socket of programming that comes inside almost to the front left of the equipment to do the programming of frequencies only.

To program the tone card either KQT-7 (QUIET TALK 8CTCSS) WITH THE SAME PROGRAMMER
WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PROGRAMMER YOU SAY:

STEP 1 TYPE OF RADIO THERE SELECT THE MODEL.

STEP 2 TIGHTENING THE STEP ONE THAT SAYS TO PROGRAM.

AND FROM THERE IT GIVES YOU THE CHANNELS HERE PASSING FROM ONE TO ONE TO PROGRAM THEM WITH RX- TONE RX TX- TX TONE AND THERE YOU GO WITH THE PROGRAMMING AND THE LAST YOU SAY IT TO PROGRAM (WRITE) AND IT DOES EVERYTHING,

FORM NUM. (2) YOU CAN DESOLDER THE IC4 - 93C46PI YOU GO TO YOUR PROGRAMMER AND GIVE IT ALL THAT REQUIRES FREQUENCIES, CHANNELS AND TONES CTCSSS, AND THEN BACK TO WELD WHERE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND TURNED ON THE EQUIPMENT, ADJUST THE VCO OF RX TO 4.5 VCD AND TX TIGHTENING THE MICROPHONE OF EQUAL FORM OF 8 VOLTS TO 4.5 AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THE POWER IS RELEASED AND AFTER YOU CONTINUE ADJUSTING THE RX COILS TO THE FREQUENCY THAT YOU PUT WITH SERVICE MONITOR.

Kenwood KPT-50 can be used with the following radio's:

TKR-720, TK-820, TKB-620, TKB-720
Can work stand alone or can work with KPG-21D software.

Very hard to find is the Kenwood KPT Field Programmer for use to program the 820/720 repeater units and the 720 VHF / 820UHF as well as many other Kenwood radios.

This is the unit that is required to program or reprogram the UHF/VHF repeaters widely used today.

TAIT T500 Conversion information for 2m VHF

TAIT T500 Diode matrix information for 2m VHF

Values of the diode matrix:

N9 - 128MHz
N8 - 64MHz
N7 - 32MHz
N6 - 16MHz
N5 - 8MHz
N4 - 4MHz
N3 - 2MHz
N2 - 1MHz
N1 - 500kHz
N0 - 250kHz

A5 - 200kHz
A4 - 100kHz
A3 - 50kHz
A2 - 25kHz
A1 - 12.5kHz
A0 - 6.25kHz

Calculation

Example:

TX frequency: 145MHz

RX frequency: 145MHz

Start off by shorting all the links CLOSED.

For each diode value you use OPEN that pad.

Receive:

Subtract 21.4MHz from the receive frequency.

So, for the RX frequency: 145 - 21.4 = 123.6MHz

Start subtracting the diode values listed above from your value, until you get to zero.

RX: 123.6MHz - (64MHz) - (32MHz) - (16MHz) -(8MHz) - (2MHz) -  (1MHz) - (500kHz) - (100kHz) = 0

This requires N8 + N7 + N6 + N5 + N3 + N2 + N1 + A4, so you would OPEN these pads to set the RX frequency.

Transmit:

So, for the TX frequency: 128MHz + 16MHz + 1MHz = 145MHz

So: 145Mhz requires diodes= N9 + N6 + N2 = 145Mhz

so you would OPEN the pads for N9, N6 and N2.

Example 2

TX frequency: 146.500MHz

RX frequency: 146.500MHz

Receive: 146.500Mhz

Receive: 146.500Mhz - 21.4 = 125.1

Receive: 125.1 - 64Mhz - 32Mhz - 16Mhz - 8Mhz - 4Mhz - 1Mhz - 0.100Khz = 0

                                N8          N7           N6         N5        N4        N2          A4  -> so you would OPEN these pads to set the RX frequency.

Transmit: 146.500Mhz

Transmit: 146.500Mhz = 128Mhz + 16Mhz + 2Mhz + 0.500Khz = 146.500Mhz

N9            N6          N3          N1  ->  so you would OPEN these pads to set the RX frequency.
