For any amateurs or interested parties out there, back in April 2019, i decided to setup and install a packet radio node for our local area, this node "Kantronics KAM" has been running 24/7 at 25watts on 145.010mhz with a Kenwood NX700 and a Tram 1487 VHF antenna fed with RG213u, the antenna is placed at a height of 50ft on the tower, which is located on Kenmount Hill. I also have filtering in place to help cut down on local interference and intermod caused by multiple transmitters located at other sites here on Kenmount hill, this a very RF active location.

Packet radio has been around way before the internet even existed, the equipment can be used for transferring files, photos, text documents and regular keyboard to keyboard conversations.

Nodes "Digital repeaters" can connect to other Nodes to form packet radio networks by connecting from one node "Digital repeater" to another... And as a matter of fact, Newfoundland once had a packet radio network "I have a photo of that network below"... sadly it has all been dismantled and no longer in use.

Packet radio can come in very handy when regular communications break down such as internet, cell service and home phone.... When that happens, packet radio will still be there passing much needed information from one place to another over RF.

In my mind, packet radio is the most underutilized digital mode in the world today, and that is very sad to see. All one needs is a older laptop computer, radio to computer interface "TNC, VHF mobile or portable radio, power supply and antenna.

Perhaps one day people will start to realize just how important packet radio can be in a emergency situation!
Then again, as i always say... "what the hell do i know!"
